Facebook’s fast growth in Redmond is putting pressure on nearby tenant General Electric Co. and may cause the company to relocate.
GE – which has an office at Willow Creek Corporate Park in Redmond – has evaluated whether to move into a new WeWork office in Bellevue because Facebook’s Oculus segment has shown interest in GE’s current space, according to multiple real estate industry sources. WeWork plans to open a new, 600-desk Bellevue Place location across two floors at 800 Bellevue Way as early as September.
It’s rumored that GE plans to take one of the floors, but the Business Journal was only able to confirm that the company has evaluated a possible move to the WeWork facility. WeWork started out by developing spaces for small companies and startups so they could rent only the space they needed.
Lately, though, WeWork has started to target large companies through its new Powered by WeWork brand. GE is already a WeWork customer, according to the WeWork’s website, which doesn’t specify where GE’s WeWork offices are located.
GE’s careers website lists 19 open jobs in Redmond. Around 260 people in the greater Seattle area list GE as their employers on LinkedIn, although LinkedIn profile data isn’t always updated and may not accurately reflect the size of a company’s local workforce. Read more from bizjournals.com…
