Posted: Aug 01, 2018 05:24 PM EDT JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Onslow County’s annual EMS training has received a virtual reality upgrade.
Instead of the typical obstacle course emergency responders would normally drive through, they now have a simulation to complete. The simulation is designed to test emergency responders with threats like bad weather conditions and reckless drivers.
County EMS driver Zachary Hierl said the simulation allows them to test their real-time responses in an emergency. “It’s applied real-world situations that we see everyday,” said ” said Hierl.
“And that allows us to be better equipped and better trained to respond and react to situations that we see everyday.” As part of their training, the drivers also watched footage of EMS accidents to determine what went wrong and how to avoid potential threats.
