If the job market is anything to go by then virtual reality (VR) technology is doing rather well. There’s always new vacancies for VRFocus’ regular Sunday feature, the VR Job Hub, with plenty of listings both in the UK and abroad – mainly the US.

A new report released job search platform Joblift has analysed the UK’s VR (and augmented reality (AR)) job market, noticing an increase of 6 percent on average each month in vacancies. According to Joblift, 10,162 VR job vacancies have been posted in the UK in the last 24 months, and while gaming still dominates, its the fundraising sector that has seen some of the biggest growth.

For those interested in moving into the VR or AR industry web developers and programmers were the most in-demand, with a quarter of all job postings, while in second place fundraisers were advertised in 7 percent of postings. This was then followed by Researchers at 4 percent, and business development managers came fourth at 3 percent.

If you fancied an internship then these are much harder to come by, only accounting for 1 percent of all vacancies. Of course location has a big influence on the amount of jobs available, with London being the top location, with 32 percent of advertised vacancies.

For the next best place you’ll have to head north, with Manchester being the next top spot. As for the rest, Cambridge comes in third, Hemel Hempstead in second – which Joblift puts down to Epson’s UK head office – and lastly there’s Bristol – home of VR World Congress (VRWC).
