A new family business has opened in Redruth bringing one of the biggest virtual reality arcades in the UK to Cornwall. Taking inspiration from the Holodecks in Star Trek: The Next Generation, the arcade has the most headsets of any VR arcade and has exciting plans to grow throughout 2019.
Owner Stephen Parkinson said that the new venue has been receiving rave reviews – with adults particularly enjoying the zombie games. Speaking to Coin Slot, Stephen said: “The biggest hurdle was finding a suitable venue, we didn’t want our own venue as we wanted someone with a captive audience and licensed bar.
“So we teamed up with Rollers Roller Rink which is a large inside Roller Skating disco with cafe, bar and retro arcade. It was then a matter of ensuring all the computers were hidden away from view and all cabling neat and tidy.
“We have also set up two mixed reality green screen booths which allow people watching to see players inside the games, which really helps get the laughs.” He added: “I have always loved VR and was inspired by the Holodecks on Star Trek TNG in the 1990s as a teenager. “When this technology became a reality, I wanted to open an arcade in Cornwall which would give locals access to the best and also biggest VR arcade in the South West.
