(Updated 7:35pm 17th March 2018) Visitors at Innovate Guildford today (Saturday 17th March) got involved in a number of activities and presentations on science, technology, engineering, maths and the arts. The event, organised by Guildford Borough Council, gives local businesses an opportunity to showcase their research and inspire others, Some of the organisations that attended include Guildford Shakespeare Youth Theatre, McLaren and Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. Hosted at G Live, visitors were able to take part in a huge range of activities and workshops including photography lessons, slime making and talks on the development of healthcare technology. Eagle Radio were broadcasting live from the event – Kirsten Borthwick, one of our young journalists from Kings College Guildford describes how she found using virtual reality.
She said: “It was kind of scary but at the same time it was really exciting to see the different dinosaurs moving around. “It’s quite an experience if you haven’t done anything like that before.”
Our other young journalist, Sophie Mia Carter, spoke to Simon Boots from Campbell Reith Engineering Company about why they chose to come along to the event. “We like to tell young people about what civil engineering and structural engineering is, and how to take a career in engineering.
